For Queens homeowners preparing a home after renovation, Neighbors Cleaning Co reviews photos and project details to understand dust, residue, surfaces and access before agreeing on the work and price. We can arrange a walkthrough if we need a closer look. Cleaning can take repeated passes, from high surfaces down to the floors. Our experience on a renovation before move-in shows why contractor timing, suitable equipment and a final review all matter.

What happens if contractors are still working?
Contractors, equipment and unfinished work can affect which areas we can clean and when we can finish. Tell us about any overlap before scheduling so we can plan around the actual condition of the home.
We cleaned one home before move-in after an extensive renovation. The kitchen had been redone, including the island, cabinets and appliances. There were two new bathrooms, redone floors, fresh paint, new lighting, baseboards and door trim.
When we arrived, contractors were still finishing work, moving equipment and taking out bags of trash. We cleaned around them where we could, stayed longer, and waited for them to leave before finishing. We saw the job through, and the client was happy.
That job shows how unfinished work can change a cleanup. It is a reason to review contractor timing with us, rather than assume every visit can absorb the same delay. If contractors need to return or keep creating dust, tell us early so we can agree on a workable plan.
How do we remove renovation dust?
We vacuum first, then work from higher surfaces down using microfiber cloths and dusters. Dust removal can take several passes. We repeat dusting and vacuuming where needed before mopping the floors.
On that renovation job, dust kept appearing as we worked. We used a shop vacuum fitted with a HEPA filter and plenty of microfiber cloths. A single pass was not enough.
Dust can collect above doorframes and windows, around light fixtures, inside cabinets, and in vents or AC filters. Looking above eye level and checking the agreed interior spaces helps us find areas that are easy to overlook.

What is included in the cleanup?
The included tasks are agreed after reviewing your photos and project details, with a walkthrough if more detail is needed. We look at dust, surfaces, access and any marks that need attention, then discuss the work, price and timing before confirming the job.
Our post-construction cleaning service is planned around the home rather than a bedroom count alone. Tell us which cabinets, appliances, windows and other areas matter to you.
Show us paint splatters, adhesive and other residue before expecting removal. We need to check both the mark and the surface. New finishes also need to be ready for cleaning under their manufacturer's care instructions.
Vents, AC units and filters need a clear agreement. If a filter can be safely removed and is suitable for cleaning, we can agree to clean it. Full AC servicing and duct cleaning are not included by that agreement.
What changes the price of post-construction cleaning?
The price depends on the home, the extent of the renovation, and the dust and residue left behind. Extra materials and repeated cleaning passes can make post-construction work more involved than an ordinary deep clean.
When reviewing the project, we consider:
- The size of the home and number of rooms.
- How much construction took place.
- The dust, debris and residue that remain.
- The surfaces and interior spaces included in the work.
- Access and any overlap with contractors or other work.
When comparing quotes, ask how each team handles hidden dust and repeated passes. Check the included tasks and any exclusions. A lower price is only useful if the quote covers the work your home needs.
What should be ready before the cleaners arrive?
Finish dusty work where possible, have the contractor remove large debris and equipment, and make the agreed areas accessible. Water, electricity and building access should be ready for the visit.
A contractor's broom-sweep helps, but leftover tools, removed fixtures, furniture and bags of trash can still block the work. Let us know what will remain rather than assuming it can be moved or removed as part of cleaning.
Our guide to preparing for a cleaning visit covers the everyday access details too.
Checking the finished work
Our cleaners follow the agreed checklist and take close-up photos of completed work. The client or their representative walks through the result and signs off on completion.
That final check might include cabinet interiors, appliances and windowsills, depending on the agreed scope. Sometimes it includes the classic finger swipe for dust. No white gloves required.
The walkthrough gives everyone a chance to compare the result with the work agreed at the start.
Frequently asked questions
Can I book while renovation work is still happening?
You can discuss the plan before the renovation is finished. Tell us what remains and when contractors expect to leave. We need to review any overlap before agreeing on cleaning timing.
Is post-construction cleaning the same as a move-in clean?
Renovation dust and residue need separate consideration, even when you are moving in afterward. Tell us about the construction rather than requesting a regular move-in clean without that detail. Our move-in cleaning guide explains the questions for a home without that extra cleanup requirement.
Will you remove all paint or adhesive marks?
We cannot promise removal before checking the material and the mark. Some methods can damage a finish. Send photos of the affected areas so we can discuss safe options and limits, arranging a closer look if needed.
How long will the cleaning take?
We discuss timing after reviewing the home and the agreed tasks. Dust levels, access and unfinished work all matter. Do not plan movers or other appointments around a fixed duration before that review.
